How do my keyword hints get used?

Our system optimizes the content of your domain so that it provides maximum value for users and advertisers, leading to more revenue for you. The keyword hints you provide help us determine the best content to place on your domain. The more closely your keyword hints match the goals of users that visit your domain, the faster they will impact the content on the page.
For instance, if you owned the domain turkey.com and your users were looking for a vacation destination instead of poultry, your keyword hints would help us start to provide travel-related content.
As time goes by, our system will analyze your keyword hints to determine how useful they are in relation to our default targeting, and will adjust the targeting appropriately in order to maximize user value. As a result, not all domains will be affected by keyword hints. For domains where adjustments do occur, visible changes may be reflected in a few hours but may take as long as a few months if your domain receives very little traffic.
Keyword hints must adhere to AdSense for domains policy guidelines. Additionally, we recommend the following guidelines in order to ensure that your keyword hints are utilized most effectively:

• Limit your keywords to 3-5 phrases
• Ensure your keywords/phrases are separated by commas
• Ensure your hints are relevant to the domain
• Stick to one theme for potentially ambiguous domains. For example, don't use "travel, recipe" together when entering hints for www.turkey.com.

For example, for the site "www.turkey.com", you might wish to use the following keyword hints: vacation, travel, destination, country, Istanbul.
